Code of Conduct

We invite you to be a part of Exun 2023 in a spirit of learning, friendliness, open-mindedness, and engagement with technology. We value the participation of each student, and we want everyone involved to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience, regardless of age, nationality, culture, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, or skill.  Accordingly, all individuals participating in Exun 2023 are expected to show respect and courtesy to others throughout the event.

To make clear what is expected, all participants, volunteers, speakers, and judges in Exun 2023 are required to conform to the following Code of Conduct and encourage others to do the same.

This code will be enforced throughout Exun 2023. The motto of Exun Clan is “We, not I”, and we want to facilitate an environment of collaboration, positivity, and inclusion. The actions we take will reflect this goal of ours.

Be considerate

Exun 2023 has participants from diverse backgrounds and of all skill levels. What is acceptable among your peers or in your culture may be different from other teams and individuals. Be respectful of possible differences both with your actions and your words. If you see any indication that someone is uncomfortable with what you are saying or doing, stop and determine if what you are doing is appropriate and if it can be done in a different, more respectful way. Be kind — all students are participating to have a positive learning experience, and do not make assumptions about anyone's interests, skill level, or any kind of personal judgments, background-based or otherwise.

Be respectful

Be respectful and professional in your behavior. Do not insult or put down others. Remember that harassment and racist, sexist, or exclusionary remarks or jokes are not appropriate for Exun 2023. Respect the rules of the events, and the boundaries of other participants and the organizing team. Do not cause disruptions to Talks, events, or on any communication medium.

Respect privacy norms

Respect the confidentiality of all those associated with Exun 2023. Invasion of privacy, including taking photos or videos, requesting photos of people you don't know, taking screenshots of conversations, or posting personal details about someone else without their permission, is strictly prohibited. Do not impersonate individuals or schools.

Judging

No participants shall use unfair means, take the help of those not in the team, or try to influence the decision of the judging panel. The decision of the judges will be final and binding. You can, however, approach the panel to understand how you can do better. Judging and grading for events will be done in an anonymous manner to avoid bias.

Be inclusive

Do not make offensive verbal or written jokes, remarks, or gestures related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, nationality, ethnicity, or religion. Do not make threats or harass others. Homophobia, racism, or any behavior that discriminates against a group or class of people is not appreciated.

Respect the virtual space

Do not disrupt a virtual meeting (e.g., “zoom-bombing”) or engage in harm or disruption of any kind. Do not create/contribute to an unsafe or exclusionary situation. Do not make audio or visual recordings of any Virtual Meetings in any medium and do not distribute audio or visual recordings of the Virtual Meetings (via social media or any other means).  Only the organizers may do so, after warning participants to give them an opportunity to opt out.

What this means for you

We will not tolerate any violation of this code or disrespectful or derogatory behavior at Exun 2023. The consequence of such behavior depends on severity; participants violating this code may be given a simple warning and asked to remedy their behavior, apologize, or the individual(s), teams, and/or schools may be disqualified from Exun 2023, or any other action deemed appropriate by the organizing team.

If you experience or observe any of these behaviors, we ask that you contact any of the persons listed below. We will take all complaints seriously and respond appropriately, and the reporter(s) have the right to remain confidential.
