COMPETITIVE EVENT DETAILS
1. Build
- “We, not I” - Exun Clan’s motto is applicable to all spheres of life. Continuing our tradition from the past years, Build is an event that requires participants from a team to come together and create, with an exciting new event in 2020 — Unreality .
- Build at Exun 2020 will feature three separate sub-events, the Designathon, Hackathon, and Unreality. There’s room for you to showcase your ability and create something meaningful, no matter what your creative interests and skills are!
- Build will be held over 3 days during Exun Week, after which teams will have a chance to showcase their creations. It is open to all teams of students and there is no designated preliminary qualification round. Teams may participate in one or more Build events, since participation in one sub-event does not affect the other(s).
- The Hackathon is an event for developers to build products from the ground up, including web applications, mobile apps, or native desktop apps.
- The Designathon will have a team of 2D and/or 3D designers who will use their abilities to create a project and tackle design problems innovatively.
- Unreality will incorporate Game Development, Audio Production and 2D/3D Design, with a strong emphasis on assets created in-house.
- Further details about the theme/format will be released a week before Build on the Discord server.
2. SpaceTech
- Progress in technology means pushing the boundaries of what is possible, not only on earth, but also the final frontier — space. Just as biological systems undergo evolution when subjected to strenuous conditions which threaten their survival, computer systems and technology too evolve and become more sophisticated if subjected to extraordinary circumstances. And what is a more strenuous, more demanding environment than space?
- With this in mind, Exun Clan is collaborating with the New Delhi Chapter of the prestigious National Space Society (USA) to give students the opportunity to explore the realms of space and it’s concurrence with technology.
- There will be a common prompt throughout the event which will be released to the teams at the start of the prelim. The event will have multiple challenging rounds, starting with a document-based preliminary round, through which a few teams will qualify.
- Further details of the rounds will be available on the 4th of November at 4 PM at exun.co/20/spacetech.
3. Competitive Programming
- Participants will face a plethora of logic, algorithm and data structures based problems and will be tested on time taken and their solution(s).
- The event will be hosted on Codeforces and will be rated for Division 2: https://codeforces.com/contests/1438. Please note that the event takes place on 13th November, 2020, before the Exun week.
- Top 100 participants will receive certificates.
4. LessWrong
- LessWrong is a first of a kind competitive programming event combining the excitement of short contests with the forethought necessary for preparing problems.
- The competitive programming event will serve as the prelims for this event, with the top 6-8 participants from India (School/Independent) qualifying.
- LessWrong will have two stages:
- A preparation stage that spans over multiple days, where you prepare test cases for problems authored by us.
- A contest in which other contestants attempt the problems prepared by you.
- Here's the twist: the problems will not necessarily have efficient solutions for the given constraints, forcing the contestants to test the strength of the test cases by submitting heuristics, or even incorrect solutions.
5. Lockout
- Another new addition to Exun 2020, Lockout is a competitive programming event, where participants go head to head in a knockout style lockout tournament featuring handpicked problems.
- The competitive programming event will serve as the prelims for this event, with the top 6-8 participants from India (School/Independent) qualifying.
6. Turing Test
- Computational linguistics is defined as the scientific study of language from a computational perspective. Computational linguists are interested in providing computational models of various kinds of linguistic phenomena, and it is these linguistic phenomena we invite you to explore in the Turing Test!
- This is a unique event both meant to provide an introduction to the amazing world of computational linguistics, as well as test one’s reasoning abilities. Prior knowledge of linguistics is neither required nor helpful for solving the questions. Bring only your logical reasoning abilities with you!
- The Turing Test will be held over 5 hours during Exun week.
- Participants will be judged on the accuracy, as well as the clarity of their solutions, along with the manner in which they describe the linguistic phenomena taking place.
- More details at exun.co/20/turingtest.
7. ExML
- Caught onto the buzz? Tired of the usual plug-and-chug in contests? Look no further, we bring you a cross-disciplinary Machine Learning event where there will be a rich variety of unique yet equally mesmerising machine learning paradigms on display and in use.
- There will be no prelims. **
- In the ExML contest, there will be a plethora of tasks to choose from, covering various Machine Learning paradigms.
- The tasks will be more subjective in focus, with an emphasis on the quality of data science, perceptible results and data ethics, depending on the specifics of the task. **
- Details at exun.co/20/exml.
8. Group Discussion
- If you think you can be logical and can quickly formulate your thoughts about a topic, the GD format is for you.
- For the online prelims, a topic will be released on 5th November, and participants will have till 13th November** to film a video of themselves arguing either for or against the motion in ≤ 120 seconds.
- The qualifying students will advance to the semifinals, which will be a regular group discussion involving the participants being split into groups and given topics that they have to discuss and conclude in a certain time frame.
- Teams which make it through the semifinals will then participate in the finals, which will have a new and unconventional format. The format will be revealed on the spot.
- Both the semifinals and the finals will be held during Exun Week on video conferencing platforms.
- More details will be available at exun.co/20/gd.
9. Hardware
- Power up your cores and overclock that grey matter, because you’re in for some serious hands-on competition! Use your technological skills to finish a series of hardware tasks on our online platform.
- There is no preliminary qualification round. Each team will have a span of 5 days to finish 4 tasks which stretch across the domains of hardware, including some truly unique and exciting tasks. A cumulative score across tasks will be used, and completing all tasks is mandatory for teams to qualify for judgement.
- Each school can form a team of upto 5 students, and it is recommended to form a team of at least 2 members to complete the tasks in a timely manner. It is highly recommended to have people versed in software development, electronics and operating systems in your team to help in interdisciplinary tasks.
